On Demand Hot Water for Plant Sanitation
Steam injection heating provides high turndown solution for CIP hot water systems
Food processing and meat & poultry plants have a critical need for on demand hot water for plant sanitation throughout the day. Steam injection heating is a very good option to support the hot water supply as it can provide high turn down (up to 8:1) on hot water flow, maintain reliable temperature control, and can be integrated into CIP hot water systems to meet all user demands.
In the Clean In Place hot water and plant sanitation process, there are many types of users of hot water that need on demand hot water to be ready including; CIP spray devices for vessel & stationary equipment washing, inline CIP cleaning of process piping & components, and numerous hot water wash down hose stations.
Given that there will be multiple hot water users, and demand of hot water can vary significantly as users cycle on and off, many CIP hot water systems integrate a surge tank to place a buffer between the users and the steam injection hot water heater. The heater can be installed on the incoming water line and the a re-circ tank water loop. The arrangement allows the heater to respond and maintain the hot water surge tank at required temperature when both hot water is being drawn and make-up water is being added.
Below are some important benefits that the ProSonix steam injection water heater can provide to your sanitation system:
- Cleaning solution chemicals often have hot water temperature requirements to ensure optimal cleaning chemical effectiveness so the hot water steam injection heater’s ability to provide reliable temperature control is important to chemical effectiveness and reduced chemical costs.
- The high turndown capability of the ProSonix steam injection heater ensures that the hot water surge tank that supports all water users will have the volume of hot water at required temperature when demand takes place.
- As steam injection heaters use 100% of the steam energy, this eliminates loss of expensive condensate and can reduce energy costs.
